How does the creation of the virtual model of the smile take place?

The digital planning of a smile begins with a detailed “photo session”, which includes photographing the patient’s mouth and face (from various angles), as well as taking X-rays (in our clinic, we do them using the 3D CT scanner ProMax of Planmeca, which provides us with cephalometric, panoramic and external images of the patient’s bite, as well as three types of three-dimensional visualization). The photographs of the patient’s face are taken with a professional digital camera in the most varied angles and states: with a smile, when he speaks different words, in a relaxed state, etc.
When everything is ready, the images obtained are processed by a special computer program that allows to determine the peculiarities of the patient’s bite, analyze the proportions of his face, the position and shape of the lips, etc.
The virtual model obtained is superimposed on the digital photograph of the patient, taking into account the midline of the dentition and the bipupillary line, as well as other parameters. The model created with this technology allows you to immediately see how your smile will look after the treatment!

In some cases, before the placement of the implants or prostheses, it is necessary to create a 3D model or a digital impression of the patient’s teeth – with his help the wax model is made: the patient can put it on and see how it will be new smile!
